How we measure

Where our numbers come from, and their limits

The network has 1,277 accounts owned by about 1,061 account owners (some own more than one). We measured the network on 14 September 2026, and this page explains how.

What we count

  • Account: a page, creator account, group or channel on one of the five platforms.
  • Followers: the number shown on the account itself at measurement time. They add up to 333,654,209.
  • Inside and outside Syria: 244.7M followers on accounts based inside Syria and 88.9M on accounts of Syrians abroad. The split follows the account's location, not each follower's.

Why the total is not a count of people

We add up the followers of every account. If one person follows three accounts in the network, they are counted three times. The total therefore shows the size of the network. It does not mean the number of people who will see your ad.

How we classify accounts

  • Region: we classify an account by the governorate it serves (14 governorates, grouped into six regions), “Nationwide” if it addresses the whole country, or “Diaspora” for accounts abroad.
  • Sector: 23 sectors, with each account assigned by its content.
  • Type: page, creator or group.

How we hide names, and what it means

We remove the account name, handle and link before the site is built, so none of them reach your browser. On the Network page you see a dot per account, and on the sample cards only two characters of the name. Follower figures shown here are rounded, and the aggregated figures stay accurate within a small margin.

What these numbers do not mean

  • They are not a count of unique people.
  • They do not guarantee how many will see your ad.
  • They change after the measurement date, as followers come and go.

The publishing-climate sample

The publishing-climate sample comes from posts by accounts in the network on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, from 1 to 14 September 2026: the same posts we used to measure the network. The method and its limits are on the Publishing climate page.
